U11 four sports in a week
In a very busy week, six of the Year 6s’ represented the school in four different sports in a week! The first was mixed Hockey v Eversfield last Wednesday. Then this week on Monday it was Basketball after school against West House. Tuesday morning was the regional round of the Aston Villa Premiership Football Tournament and to finish off on Wednesday it was Rugby against Solihull School.
The boys said that the variety, as well as the quality of the sport at Hallfield was fantastic and they were very grateful to have had the opportunities to play these sports. They all had their favourite moments with Neo and Henry enjoying the Aston Villa Football tournament in their fantastic indoor training ground. Max particularly enjoyed the Rugby as the boys improved so much during the game and he personally made some great tackles and scored a couple of tries. Cai enjoyed the Basketball as he was pleased that they won having lost when they played away. Aarav and Anay really liked the Hockey as it was a relatively new sport to them, and they had not played many matches.
All the boys are looking forward to even more challenges next term with Cross-country and Badminton to add to their list.
Rugby v Solihull
U10 A Lost 11 – 2
U10 B Lost 9 – 8
U10 C Won (Tag) 10 – 2
U10 A: In the A team match we tried hard against some bigger, quicker and more experienced boys. We ran, passed and recycled the ball well but our tackling needs to improve, but a good effort for our first game of the season.
U10 B: 9-8 to Solihull but a valiant effort from the Bs. We were trailing by about 3 tries for much of the match, trading scores after Solihull had forged an early lead. However, we came back into it towards the end with some good, determined, physical play. There was some strong running, especially by Muffadal and Daniel, but also good contributions from across the team. Learning to pass a bit earlier, tackle harder and run more directly will help improve for next time. A good effort for the first match.
U11 Basketball v West House
After a very close defeat a couple of weeks ago the U11 Basketball team were keen to reverse the score when they played West House again at Hallfield. West House however started well and created a lead, but we battled back and reacted well to coach Hewer’s instructions. Gradually we equalled their score before overtaking their score with a comfortable margin. In the end we won by 5 points. Bora was instrumental in driving the team forward, but everyone played their part in the win, well done!
U11 at the Aston Villa Premiership Football Tournament
The squad played 4 matches against local primary schools who all had skilful players, and we did not seem to have much luck! Well tried boys.
U9 Rugby v RGS Worcester
U9 A Drew 6 – 6
A fantastic effort against a more experienced Worcester team in our first contact rugby match. Everyone tried hard abut the following were particularly good at tackling and running well – Marley, Seve, Saif, Roshan, Kenenna – well played!
U9 B Won 15 – 12
A great team performance but Adam was superb in both attack and defence, running in many tries and knocking the opposition flying in his tackling. Fantastic boys in your first contact game – well done!
