A huge thank you to all the Old Hallfieldians who played in our annual Old Hallfieldian Cricket match. It was a sunny June evening and the perfect conditions to welcome back our former pupils to re-live sporting glories on our iconic cricket pitch.
Two teams of Old Hallfieldians faced each other for the 20 over match – one captained by Rob Davies (OH 1994-2002) , and the other by Hallfield’s very own Mr Moffatt.
Rob Davies’s team batted first and nobody except Mr Hayer managed to stay in too long with some fine bowling and fielding. After their 19 overs they had reached 123 runs. Mr Moffatt’s team responded well with Yuvraj Hayer and Mr Moffatt scoring well and retiring having made a good dent in the total. Arjun Nahal came in to bat and smacked the ball around before retiring. In the last few overs, after a couple of wickets had fallen it came down to the last over when the batting team needed 4 to win which they got. It was a great game where everyone played a part.
We had a record number of spectators with one Old Hallfieldian travelling all the way from Cardiff. Peter McLaughlan (OH 1983-1991), brought back his cricket team photo from the 1980s where he can be seen wearing a Hallfield striped cricket blazer! He was joined by his father, Ian McLaughlan (OH 1949-1954) and they both very much enjoyed their time back at school.
Thank you to all our cricketers, scorers and extra fielders! We’ll see you the same time next year.
