Birmingham and District Junior Chess League 2024/2025 – Event 1

We entered a team of four Year 5/6 players into this season’s local U13 chess league. All of the other teams are senior schools whose players were exclusively in Year 7 & Year 8 so we were the youngest team by far.

At the end of three rounds of chess at KES, all four of our players had scored either 2/3 or 2.5/3 against very tough opposition. There were 17 teams present, including teams from Solihull, KE Five Ways, KE Camp Hill, Bishop Vesey, KE Aston and AMGS Walsall but it was only the King Edward’s School team (containing three former Hallfield star players of the last couple of years) who pipped us to first place, with Hallfield School finishing in second place.

Well done to Krish, Handuo, Aarav and Jasper on a magnificent result and a great start to the 2024/25 chess season.
