Busy Month for Hallfield Chess Players

On Saturday 12th March a County U11 team tournament took place in Nottingham. Five Hallfield players (out of twelve players) represented Warwickshire, including our Yr2 chess star Krish Gandhi following a late withdrawal. With the help of our famous five Warwickshire stormed to victory followed in second place by Nottinghamshire and Greater Manchester in third place. Our players were: Preesh Gandhi, Diah Patel, Rohan Khashu, Dylan Kotecha and Krish Gandhi. Diah and Rohan scored a fantastic 3/3 in their games and Krish, despite being the youngest player at the event at just 6 years old, scored an amazing 2/3. Well done to everyone who competed.

On Wednesday 23 March twelve Hallfield players competed in a chess tournament at KES against 60 players from several other local schools. This event requires very fast thinking as each game lasts a maximum of only 5 minutes! Although this was a U11 event some of our youngest players were among the top scorers: Aarav Parekh (Yr3) won a silver medal scoring 4.5/6, well done, and coming joint second overall with 5/6 and winning gold medals were Hamzah Ilyas and Matthew Chung (both Yr4). All of our players scored well and we had a lot of fun, many thanks to KES for organising.

A squad of 11 players is due to travel down to Twickenham Prep at the end of the month to retain our IAPS team U11 and U13 titles. A full report will follow.

What a month for Hallfield chess, well done to everyone who has played so far and good luck to the squad who are competing at Twickenham Prep in the IAPS Championships at the end of the month.
