From earning a silver award in the Junior Maths Challenge as a Year 4 pupil to representing his school and county in chess tournaments, Krish has thrived academically and personally. His story reflects the school’s dedication to nurturing talent and inspiring lifelong learning.

Here’s a closer look at Krish’s inspiring journey.

Personal academic journey

1. How did you develop a strong academic focus?

I developed a strong academic focus from doing my homework, developing a passion for learning and doing co-curricular activities (especially chess) which has led to me gaining more discipline in lessons.

2. Can you share a specific moment or achievement in your academic journey that made you feel especially proud?

One of my proudest academic achievements was when I participated in the JMC (Junior Maths Challenge) and got the silver award. I was very proud as I was the only Year 4 pupil to achieve this.

Academic growth and achievements

3.  What subjects do you enjoy the most, and why do they interest you?

My favourite subjects are science and maths – science, for me, is a fun subject because of the experiments and I generally find the topics interesting. I enjoy maths because it is interesting and when you finish one activity, there is always another one to do and I really like that feeling when the questions and answers make sense.

4.  How do you manage to balance excelling academically while still maintaining a positive attitude towards learning?

I think I manage to balance this because I enjoy learning and sometimes, even if something seems quite boring, I find a bit of fun in every activity.

5.  Have you taken on any projects or challenges outside the classroom that helped you grow academically?

I take on many challenges outside the classroom – especially with chess. Chess has helped me develop as a person, improve my discipline, focus and makes me happy because it is doing something that I enjoy. I play in tournaments as an individual, but also play for our school and Warwickshire County Chess Team.

Support and guidance

6. How have teachers or mentors at school influenced your academic development and passion for learning?

All of my teachers have helped me to push myself to my academic limits; by giving me plenty of challenges and most importantly they are kind, which makes me feel like I’m in a safe space and lets me focus on my academic studies.

7. How do you feel the Academic Scholarship has supported your growth and encouraged you to push yourself further?

The Academic Scholarship has encouraged me to keep high standards in my studies and it makes me feel that I have a part to play in the school.

Future aspirations

8. What are your long-term academic goals, and how do you plan to achieve them?

I want to keep enjoy learning. My long-term academic goals are to get a place when it is time to move on in a good secondary school. This will continue to help me find what I want to do when I am older. I will need to go to university.

9. Are there any specific areas of study or future career paths that you’re particularly interested in exploring?

I would really like to become an aeronautical engineer as I am really interested in planes, helicopters and other aeronautical vehicles.

10. What advice would you give to pupils who are passionate about academics and want to excel in their studies?

My advice for students wishing to excel in the curriculum consist of three main points – firstly, listen to teachers and focusing on the task at hand. Secondly, is continuing to work outside of school – this is mainly homework! My last piece of advice is to do co-curricular activities constantly, these will help you develop important skills while keeping you happy.

Reflection and character

11. How do you handle setbacks or failures in your academic work, and what have you learned from those experiences?

I try to handle setbacks and failures by calming myself down and taking my mind off the subject. I have learnt and practiced this from my experience in chess, where I have setbacks, but learned to deal with them and comeback stronger. I try and do the same with my studies.
