Dinos, Gems, and Sea Dragons: Day 1 in London

Year 6’s first day in London was fantastic. The journey was plain sailing as they arrived just after 12 noon at The Natural History Museum. Here they had a picnic lunch before splitting into small groups to explore the famous museum. The exhibitions left everyone wide-eyed with wonder, with the dinosaur exhibit quickly becoming a crowd favourite—particularly the T-Rex sporting a festive jumper, which brought plenty of laughs! Exploring the museum further, they delved into the impressive collection of fossils and gems, sparking lively discussions. Our journey led them to The Vault, where they uncovered dazzling treasures, including the breathtaking 9,381-carat blue topaz gemstone—the largest of its kind!

On their way to the Red Zone, the group ascended a mesmerising escalator that transported them through the Earth’s core, setting the stage for the Volcanoes and Earthquakes exhibitions. Here, a wealth of information, engaging videos, and interactive simulations offered the pupils a glimpse into life during and after these natural events, including a staged experience of an earthquake inside a Japanese store.

To round off the visit, the group explored the gift shop before heading to dinner. At Pizza Express, everyone enjoyed a delicious two-course meal in a private room, providing the perfect conclusion to an exciting first day in London.

Sailors and Explorers – A maritime adventure: Day 2 in London

Tuesday was packed with excitement as the group delved into London’s maritime history. The day began bright and early at the iconic Cutty Sark, where Mr Morrow joined the pupils for the day’s adventures. Together, they explored the rich story of this legendary ship, learning how the Cutty Sark sailed across the globe, visiting major ports to deliver tea. With 11 miles of rigging on board, the ship’s scale left everyone in awe. Starting in the hold, where tea cargo was once stored, the group worked their way up through the mid-deck to the top, engaging with interactive games and fun facts to enrich their fact files along the way.

The adventure continued with a walk to the British Maritime Museum. At the centre of the museum, pupils explored the Great Map, enthusiastically pushing model ships across the globe. In the Polar Worlds gallery, they uncovered stories of daring polar expeditions and learned about the indigenous communities of the Arctic and Antarctic.

It was a day filled with discovery and wonder, further fuelling the excitement for what London has in store.

A quick walk towards the Thames found us at the port for the Uber boat to take us on a 45-minute journey to the London Eye. This ride allowed us to get a unique view of London which even some of the teachers hadn’t experienced before. As we walked across Westminster bridge the sun began to shine just in time to enjoy the stunning views. We were in awe as the sun set behind the Big Ben as we floated back down towards the Thames.

Our evening concluded with a delicious three course meal at Las Iguanas in London’s Royal Festival.

Lights, Legends, and History: Day 3 in London!

Day 3 saw Year 6 stepping into the world of fame and history at Madame Tussauds! Pupils were in awe as they “met” some of the world’s most iconic figures. Firm favourites included Taylor Swift, the Royal Family, and William Shakespeare!

The experience didn’t stop there—a ride in the mini black cabs took everyone on a journey through Britain’s rich history, showcasing influential figures and moments from the past.

Year 6 travelled by coach to the V&A and seen some fantastic sculptures, precious gemstones, and stunning art. They also had a go at designing their own trophies and jewellery! their day continued with an incredible visit to the British Science Museum. Here pupils interacted with all things space by getting a close-up of spaceships and even a small piece of the moon! The immense museum also displayed different aircrafts, some of which they stepped in or walked underneath. Other exhibits gave an insight into the modern world and how technology has changed and shaped our lives. To finish the day, pupils dined at O’Neills Soho.

Theatrical Delights and Historic Marvels : Day 4

Year 6 spent Thursday morning exploring the wonderful Globe Theatre. They all felt it was such a privilege to be personally shown around by the tour guides. After the tour they had a drama workshop with Tom – an actor at the Globe. All pupils fully immersed themselves in Romeo & Juliet. Thanks to our own Mr Woollhead, pupils made a brilliant impression on the actors who complemented so many of their acting skills.

From here they travelled by coach to Westminster Abbey and wow, they were in for a treat! After finishing lunch, we had a personal tour in small groups. The history of the church was astounding. They stood only meters away from the coronation throne! All marvelled upon graves of great poets, composers, and artists and sat where past prime ministers have sat during important events such as weddings, funerals, and coronations. Pupils were truly amazed by the beauty of the building, all commenting on the architecture and the attention to detail. A wonderful afternoon spent.

Year 6 then went straight to dinner at Byron Burgers and enjoyed their final meal as a group along with Mrs Florida-James.

After their meal, they all became thrilled to be spending the evening in West End, to see Matilda at The Cambridge Theatre!

Magical Grand Finale at Harry Potter, Warner Bros. Studios Tour: Day 5

A magical finish to the week and one which has been looked forward to by so many. Harry Potter Studios was truly enchanting. The pupils explored iconic sets like the Great Hall, Diagon Alley, and Hogwarts Castle, immersing ourselves in the magic of the Wizarding World. The attention to detail was mesmerising, and seeing the actual costumes and props from the films added a sense of awe. The experience ignited imaginations, making the fantasy of Hogwarts feel incredibly real. It was an exciting journey through the cinematic magic of Harry Potter leaving a long-lasting impression on all.
