Warwick Junior Open

Many Hallfield players entered this excellent event in January, part of the Warwickshire series of tournaments organised by the tireless Mr Holowczak. The following players won medals:

Krish, Mark, Ayansh, Aarav, Suday, Alex, Rosh and our leading scorer with 4/5 points, Siddh. Well done to all of our talented players.

Birmingham and District Junior Chess League – Event 3

This is the U13 league which we cheekily enter, even though we are the only team consisting of players who are all U11 (at the moment). We entered two teams this time with the B team finishing 9th and the A team coming in 5th (of 14 teams). We had good wins against KE Camp Hill, Bishops Vesey, Solihull and KE Aston. Well done to Krish, Matthew, Mark, Ayansh, Hamzah, Handuo, Aarav, Arnav, Jasper and Roshan. Handuo was the star performer scoring 5.5/7 closely followed by Krish and Mark on 5/7.

Warwickshire Primary Schools Team Chess Championship Final & Plate

The Final of this event was a round robin of the 8 top school teams in Warwickshire (which includes Birmingham, Coventry and Solihull). While our A team played in The Final, our B team competed in The Plate competition which was for schools who failed to qualify for the final, school B teams and schools outside of Warwickshire.

The Plate

Our B team of Ayansh, Handuo, Hamzah and Emily had a fantastic tournament only dropping one point from 28 and therefore winning every match comfortably and finishing first. The Blue Coat B were second with Warwick Junior/Prep B and King Henry VIII Junior third and fourth.

The Final

Krish led our A team together with Matthew, Mark and Hannah to a well-deserved victory in The Final against some very strong teams. All players scored well with Mark and Hannah brilliantly winning all 7 of their games. The Final results, in order:

  1. Hallfield
  2. The Blue Coat
  3. Warwick Junior/Prep
  4. Solihull
  5. St Gabriel’s
  6. St Mary’s
  7. Eversfield
  8. St Augustine’s
